May's Share The Plate

For the month of May, UUCHV will Share the Plate with Feeding Westchester.

Driven by the belief that access to healthy food is a basic right for all people, Feeding Westchester leads hunger action programs and mobilizes the resources needed to eradicate hunger in Westchester County.

Feeding Westchester is registered as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.

They have been hard at work to fill the need of food in Westchester. In the month of March, more than 1.4 million pounds of food were distributed in the county, about a 77% increase from what was moved last March. They have worked with individual municipalities to set up temporary food pickup sites, as well as continuing to work within their countywide partner network. To complement these sites, they have also hosted their own drive-thru food distributions, both at the Elmsford headquarters, as well as at Westchester Community College. They are dedicated to serve throughout this pandemic and are grateful for our support.

Feeding Westchester serves nearly 200,000 people each year. They supply 95 percent of all food distributed annually across the region’s food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and daycare and residential programs – delivering over 9.3 million pounds of food and 7.8 million meals to people in 2018. Their collaboration with major retailers and corporations, and expertise in food procurement, storage, and distribution, turns every monetary donation into fresh food for our community. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was estimated that 1 in 5 people will experience food insecurity this year. Every dollar donated provides 4 meals for children, families, and seniors struggling with hunger in our communities.
