A Good Look at the Book Sundays, March 12, 19; April 9, 23, 30 at 11:30 a.m.
The book in the title is the Bible. UUs have varied experiences and vastly different views of the Bible. Some understand it to be an enduring anthology of the major events of human history, and among the greatest pieces of literature ever written. Some have very negative associations to it because of its hurtful misuse by literalists. We think most would agree, however, that it is important for us, as UUs, to be able to join the conversation when the Bible is the topic of the discussion. So, come and join the conversation.
Bibleodeon: A Kid’s Good Look at the Book Same dates as above to run concurrently with our adult workshop on the Bible.
We do not teach the Bible as the literal word, of course, but we do think the Bible is important to know, for at least three reasons: 1) There are good lessons and inspiring words in it. 2) Ours is a predominantly Jewish and Christian culture, and anyone who doesn't know about the Bible is culturally illiterate; and 3) Knowing more about the Bible from a historical perspective enables our children to explain their own beliefs better to others who are biblically oriented.
